Terms of Service
By using Coach Tempo, you agree to these terms. They exist to make it clear what the app promises, what it doesn't, and how we both expect to behave. Last updated 19 April 2026.
1. Who these terms are between
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you (the person using the app) and Coach Tempo — an independent Australian project operated by the founder, Chris ("we", "us", "our"). You enter this agreement the first time you connect your Strava account to the app.
2. What the app does
Coach Tempo reads your Strava activity history, computes training-load and fitness metrics, and generates a week-by-week running plan toward a race target you nominate. It also offers AI-assisted coaching commentary via third-party language-model APIs. The app is provided to serious recreational runners at the founder's discretion.
3. Your account and access
- You must have a valid Strava account and authorise Coach Tempo through Strava's OAuth flow. The only scope we request is
activity:read_all. - You're responsible for keeping access to your Strava account secure. If you lose control of it, revoke Coach Tempo at strava.com/settings/apps immediately.
- You must be at least 16 years old to use the app.
- We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access if the app is misused, abused, or used in a way that would breach these Terms, the Strava API Agreement, or the law. Where practical we'll tell you why and give you a chance to fix it first.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Scrape, reverse-engineer, or automate the app beyond normal human use.
- Attempt to access another user's data, bypass row-level security, or exploit vulnerabilities. If you find one, please report it to support@coachtempo.run.
- Use the app to collect, copy, or redistribute Strava data belonging to athletes other than yourself.
- Use the app for anything that would breach Strava's API Agreement, Anthropic's Acceptable Use Policy, or Australian law.
- Upload feedback screenshots or text that is unlawful, abusive, or contains other people's personal information without consent.
5. Your data
Your data handling is covered in full in our Privacy Policy. In short: you own your data, we process it only to provide you the service, we never sell it, and you can wipe it at any time by revoking the app on Strava or emailing us.
6. The coaching is not medical advice
Running is a physical activity with inherent risk. Coach Tempo is a training tool, not a clinician. Nothing the app generates — plans, pace targets, heart-rate zones, AI commentary, or race-time predictions — is medical advice, a medical device output, or a substitute for advice from a doctor, physiotherapist, or qualified coach.
- Consult a suitably qualified professional before starting, changing, or intensifying any training programme, especially if you have a heart condition, injury, or other medical concern.
- Stop training and seek medical attention if you experience chest pain, severe breathlessness, loss of consciousness, or any other symptom of concern.
- You use the app and follow its outputs at your own risk. You are ultimately responsible for deciding whether a given session is appropriate for you on a given day.
7. AI-generated content
Some outputs of the app — coaching commentary in particular — are generated by large language models (currently Anthropic's Claude). AI outputs can be wrong, inconsistent, or confidently incorrect. Treat them as one input among many, not as ground truth. We don't guarantee that AI commentary will be accurate, available, or free of errors.
8. Third-party services
The app depends on third-party services to function:
- Strava provides the activity data. Coach Tempo is not endorsed by or affiliated with Strava. Use of the Strava API is subject to the Strava API Agreement, which governs the data you see inside the app.
- Anthropic, Supabase, Netlify, and Resend provide infrastructure we use. See the Privacy Policy for what each one handles.
If any of these providers are unavailable, the corresponding parts of Coach Tempo may also be unavailable. We don't control their uptime and don't warrant that any external service will be reachable at any given time.
9. Intellectual property
- The Coach Tempo name, wordmark, visual design, UI code, plan-generation logic, and analytics implementations are owned by us.
- Your activity data, race targets, preferences, and feedback remain yours. By using the app, you grant us a limited licence to store and process that data solely for the purpose of operating Coach Tempo for you.
- Strava trademarks, logos, and icons used inside the app are the property of Strava, Inc. and are used under the terms of the Strava Brand Guidelines.
10. Fees
Coach Tempo is currently free while in early access. If we introduce paid tiers in the future, any charge will be for the value Coach Tempo adds — plan generation, AI coaching, analytics — and not for access to your Strava data (which Strava provides at no cost to authenticated users). We will tell you clearly before any payment is taken and you will have the option to decline and continue with your data intact.
11. Changes to the service
The app is under active development. Features may change, be added, or be removed. We'll avoid breaking your training plan mid-programme wherever possible, but we reserve the right to alter, pause, or discontinue the service. If we discontinue the service, we'll give you reasonable notice and an opportunity to export what you need.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms to reflect new features, legal requirements, or service-provider changes. If the changes are material, we'll notify you inside the app before they take effect. Continuing to use the app after the effective date means you accept the new Terms.
13. Termination
You can stop using Coach Tempo at any time by revoking access on Strava. We may terminate or suspend your access if you breach these Terms. On termination, your data is deleted as described in the Privacy Policy, and clauses that by their nature should survive (14, 15, 16, 17) will continue to apply.
14. Warranty disclaimer
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Coach Tempo is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, reliability, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any defect will be corrected. We do not warrant the accuracy of training plans, fitness estimates, race predictions, AI commentary, or any other output.
Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee or right that cannot lawfully be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law or any other applicable consumer-protection law. Where such rights apply, our liability is limited (at our option) to re-supplying the service or refunding fees paid for it.
15. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will Coach Tempo, its founder, or its contributors be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages — including lost profits, lost data, injury, or loss of opportunity — arising out of or in connection with the app, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), statute, or otherwise, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our aggregate liability for any direct damages arising out of or in connection with the app will not exceed one hundred Australian dollars (AUD $100) or, if greater, the total fees you have paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.
16. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Coach Tempo, its founder, and its contributors from any claim or demand arising out of your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the app, your breach of the Strava API Agreement, or your infringement of any third party's rights.
17. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia. You and we submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria, Australia for any dispute that cannot be resolved informally, except where Australian law grants you the right to bring a claim in another jurisdiction.
18. Miscellaneous
- If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
- Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.
- You can't assign your rights under these Terms without our consent. We may assign ours in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of the project.
- These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding Coach Tempo.
